Hans Martin Spitelmaier was born in 1677 in Baden, Hoffenheim, Heidelberg, Germany and was baptized on December 13, 1677.  He was the son of Hans and Dorothea Spittelmayer.

He married Anna Catherine Willeman on May 8, 1703. Their children and life together are described in detail in the section on Martin and Catherine Spitelmaier.
